Events.
15th-18th October: Associate Professor Clare Corbould is co-organising a symposium on “The Global Plantation” with Anna Arabindan-Kesson (Princeton University) and Jarvis McInnis (Duke University). In six zoom sessions over three days, scholars and artists will investigate the plantation’s iterations across temporal and spatial geographies. The keynote speaker is anthropologist Deborah Thomas (Penn). All welcome. Registration is free.
Australian Policy and History.
In APH’s recent opinion piece, Nicholas Ferns describes the decline of Australian aid to our region. Reviewing decades of developmental policy to the Pacific and south-east Asia, he argues that the challenges presented by COVID and increased Chinese activity suggest Australia should redouble its humanitarian efforts.
