CHRG Member Publication: The Limits of Life Writing

Contemporary Histories Research Group members David McCooey and Maria Takolander have edited the recently published a collection of essays, The Limits of Life Writing, (Routledge).

This collection began to life as a CHRG symposium in 2016 (see The limits of Writing Life Symposium Report). Prior to book publication, it was published as a special issue of Life Writing in 2017.

The collection includes essays by Deakin staff, including Maria Takolander, Adam Brown and Jo Langdon. The book features work by leaders in the field of life writing, such as Gillian Whitlock and Kate Douglas, and it offers new insights into the nature of auto/biographical writing in contemporary culture. It attends to various ‘liminal forms’ of life writing, including magical-realist fiction, graphic memoir, confessional poetry, and personal blogs.
