Congratulations to Dr Pawan Singh, a New Generation Network Scholar (NGN) in Contemporary History at Deakin University and the Australia India Institute, who has been awarded the Toyota Foundation Grant for his project on data privacy and biometric identity in the Indian context under the Foundation’s research initiative, “Exploring New Values for Society” for 2018-19.
The grant amount of 800,000YEN (AUD 9900) will enable Pawan to conduct field research in India at the Centre for Internet and Society (Bangalore) and Medianama (Delhi) as well as historical archives. Pawan’s project examines the data privacy contestations in the wake of the Indian Government’s implementation of the biometric identity project, Aadhaar as well as social media technologies.
