Welcome to our new member, postgraduate student Clare Ribaux.
Clare’s thesis, titled ‘The Golden Age of Northern Aboriginal Communities’, examines why Aboriginal communities in the north of Australia refer to their period of interaction with Macassar as their “Golden Age” in the period before and during early colonisation. It will examine the frequency and extensiveness of this interaction between Aboriginal Australia and Macassar along with the impact that both groups had on each other. She will also be seeking to understand if there is any evidence in the 21st century of this impact remaining in northern Aboriginal communities.
