Roy Hay recently presented at Sporting Traditions XXI, the 40th anniversary iteration of the Biennial Conference of the Australian Society for Sports History. The paper Roy delivered was the latest version of extracts from the biography of Pompey Austin on which he is working: ‘Albert “Pompey” Austin, 1844–6?–1889: A Man between Two Worlds.’ Roy and Athas Zafiris’ article on the broader question of how we should understand Indigenous involvement in football in the nineteenth century will be published in Meanjin later this year.
