The Contemporary Histories Research Group at Deakin calls all History (and cognate disciplines) Honours Students!

Do a History PhD that matters with one of the world’s leading ‘Contemporary History Groups’ at Deakin University. The Group contains some of Australia’s leading historians in European, Asian, Australian and transnational History.
The group is holding a one-day Honours workshop on Friday 18 August at Deakin Waterfront Campus in Geelong, Victoria. Students from around Australia are invited to come and meet the Group to discuss possible PhD topics, to identify the best supervisors available and broadly discuss employment pathways, both outside and inside the Academy. Places are limited and participants will be selected on the strength of their 1 page abstract outlining their prospective PhD topic and how it fits with historical/cross-disciplinary expertise at Deakin.
Interstate students are invited to apply for six scholarships of $500 each to fund travel and accommodation. Visit our website or contact us to discover the possibilities of joining our Group and beginning your PhD journey.
Presenters and Discussants will include scholars such as Helen Gardner, Carolyn Holbrook, David Lowe, Tony Joel, Bart Ziino and Filip Slaveski.
The event will be held in The Council Chambers Room at Deakin’s Geelong Corporate Centre at the Waterfront campus, and run from 9am-5pm.
Application Process
The workshop will be restricted to honours students in History enrolled at Australian universities There is no registration fee. The deadline for applications is 14 July 2017.

- A brief CV
- 1 page statement explaining the subject of your honours thesis, prospective PhD topic and how it connects with the project of Contemporary History.
