Harriet has recently commenced her PhD, titled ‘The Symbiotic Relationship Between New and Traditional Media’, at Deakin University. She has particular interest in the perceived illegitimacy of online media and how such a perception excludes digital media and its consumers from the literary framework. Her PhD aims to find the literary roots of digital media and establish if such media conforms to traditional literary modes. This research branches off from her Honours thesis, titled ‘Fairy Tales and Fan Fiction: Tracing the Lineage of Digital Fan Fiction’, which explored the relationship of digital fan fiction to historical literary modes, from fairy tales and the oral tradition through print media, then transitioning to online.
