‘Geelong Women and the First World War’
Deakin University Waterfront campus, Geelong
Friday 29 April, 3.30-6pm.
Join us at our upcoming event, a free public seminar sponsored by the Contemporary Histories Research Group and the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary Local Grants Scheme.
The First World War was not just men’s business. Thousands of Australian women responded to the demands of the war, and found themselves acting in an extraordinary range of dangerous situations and in diverse capacities.
Join Dr Janet Butler and Dr Ruth Lee as they delve deep inside the experiences of two Geelong women at war – Sister Kit McNaughton and Dr Mary De Garis – to see how these women took part in a war that brought their professionalism and emotional endurance to the fore.
