Samuel Koehne Speaking in Adelaide: Behind the Wire- The Origins of the Temple-Society in Australia

SKoehneProfileDr Samuel Koehne is speaking in Adelaide to the Friends of the Lutheran Archives on 22 February at 7.30pm on the topic:

Behind the Wire: The Origins of the Temple-Society in Australia
In August of 1941, the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth arrived in Sydney Harbour with the families of a small religious group called the ‘Temple-Society’ on board. From this point until the end of the war, they were kept in internment camps in Australia as ‘enemy aliens.’ This talk offers a brief history of the ‘Templers’ and their origins, but particularly the history of their group in the British Mandate of Palestine, their response to the rise of the Nazis, and their internment by both the British and Australian governments.
