At the end of a major project looking at legacies of Australian-sponsored tertiary scholarships, CHRG members David Lowe, Jemma Purdey and Jon Ritchie have created a unique data base of oral history for ongoing use by researchers. The AusAID-DFAT supported research project Scholarships and Connections recorded over 100 life stories of students from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea who were sponsored for Australian-based tertiary study from 1950s-2010. These interviews with alumni of these programs deepen our understanding of scholarship programs and whether or not they produce outcomes that are consistent with the objective of building mutually beneficial linkages between Australia and partner countries. Deakin University Library is proudly hosting this data base in a friendly on-line environment and with the capacity to add more material that may follow the project’s formal completion.
